Herb John Perez is a 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist in the sport of Taekwondo and is a Foster City resident and currently the owner and head instructor of Gold Medal Martial Arts Center in Foster City.Born and raised in New York City to immigrant parents, Herb observed at a very early age the importance of community, education, family, and hard work. He carried the life lessons he learned as a youth and applied them throughout his adult life.
Prior to winning gold in Barcelona, Herb was inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame in 1988, he was a six-time U.S. National Team Captain, and was a three-time winner of the Pan American Championships. During this time Herb also found a way to work his way through school to receive his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from William Patterson University. He then went on to win gold at the 1992 Games and in the same year became the United States Olympic Committee (“USOC”) Taekwondo Athlete of the Year. Immediately following the Olympics, he enrolled in and received his Law degree from Rutgers University and then set out to earn his Masters in Sports Organization and Management from the University of Lyon in France.
